Jacob Hergenreder was drafted into the Czarist Army, served his
year, and immediately emmigrated with his new wife, Mary
Christina. He was probably was the only relative fluent in
Russian. He was known for not liking Russians.

Known as 'Grandfather' to Dorothy Mae, was remembered as 'kind'
providing food to the Schuman family, including nieces and
nephews, after Andreas Merk Died. The Merks lived at Hergenreder
house, when Henry Frank Schuman (Jr.) died accidently. The
Schuman's were unwilling to take the family in. Mary Katherine
Schuman remembered that they were expected to work very hard for
her keep, at the Hergenreder Dairy Farm, in Loveland CO. He was
reputed to believe that girls needed only one dress.
