Anton Stelzig Jr. was a German immigrant who was a custom saddle maker.
He opened his first saddle and harness business in Richmond, TX in 1870.
In 1887 he packed up shop in Richmond in a covered wagon and creaked down
a dirt road to a nearby town called Houston. He started Stelzig
Saddlery Company, Inc. in Houston, Texas in the year 1887. In the 1980
Stelzigs is on the the largest family owned western stor in the country.

In County Court, Fayette County Texas,
April Term 1895
To the Honorable W. S. Robson , Judge of said Court:
Your petitioner Teresa Stelzig a resident citizen of Fayette County,
Texas, would respectfully represent that her husband, Anton Stelzig,
departed this life at his home in Fayette County, Texas, on or about the
5th day of Feruary 1895. That he left personal and real property in said
county of the estimated value of ($8,000.00) Eight Thousand Dollars. That
he left a written will duly signed and attested as required by law which
will is hewewith filed marked Exhibit "A" and is made a part hereof.
That by the terms of said will your petitioner was appointed Executrix of
said estate, that she is not required to give bond and that by the
specific terms of said will nothing was to be done in court in relation
to said estate, but to probate said will and to file an inventory and
appraisement of this Estate. That petitioner is ready and willing to
qualify as Exectrix of said will. Wherefore she prays that due notice of
the filing of this application be given as required by law and that she
have a decree probating said will ordering same to record, appointing her
as Executrix of said estate and for such other orders and decrees as may
be necessary in the premises and as in duty bound will she be the
Exector, and that neither shall be required to give any bond or security,
nor be accountable to any court or tribunal having jurisdiction of deed
persons Estate but only to file on inventory and appraisement of our
Estate and to carry out the provisions of the will. Witness our had at
La Grange, Fayette County, Texas, this 21st day of May 1891 in the
presence of and in the presence of each other.

Greeting: Whereas Teresa Stelzig has filed in my office her application
to the County Court of Fayette County, Texas for probate of the Last will
and Testement of Anton Stelzig deceased, and to be appointed Executrix of
said Will, which said application will be heard at the next regular term
of said Court commencing and to be held on the 15th day of April 1895.
This is therefore to command you to post up three copies of this notice
for 10 days at three of the most public places in said county one of
which must be at the Court house door, and no two of which shall be in
the same town or city, citing all persons interested in said Will to be
and appear befor the County Court os said Count at the Cour-house thereof
in the city of La Grange on the 15th day of

County of Fayette
Know all men by these presents that we, Anton Stelzig Sr. joined by his
wife, Theresea Stelzig, both resident citizens of the County of Fayette
and State of Texas and borth being of sound and disposing mind, memory
and discretion do make, publish and declare the following to be our last
will and testament.
First: We direct that all of our just debts, if any ther be shall be
paid by our Executors or Executrix hereafter named.
Second: We give and gequeath to our son Anton Stelzig, Jr., the sum of
One thousand Dollars, the same having been already paid to him.
Third: We give and bequeath to our son, Frantz Stelzig the sum of One
thousand Dollars, the same having beenadvanced as purchase money but has
paid the same in full.
Fourth: We give and bequeath to our sone, Joseph Stelzig, the sume of
One thousand Dollars, the same having been paid and advanced to him as
part of the purchase money for several tracts of land containing in all
about three hundred and eighty acres. He being indebted to us in the
amount of two thoursand dollars besides.
Fifth: We give and bequeath to our son Adolph Stelzig the sum of one
thousand Dollars, he being indebted to us in same amount for which we
hold his note with some credits thereon. The one thousand Doolars
bequeathed to him have also been paid to him and are receipted for by
him. We holding his receipts for same anf for the balance his note
bering interest less some credits thereon.
Sixth: We give and bequeath to our daughter Amelia Schaefer wife of
Siegmund Schaefer of their legal offspring in marriage, a like sume of
One thousand Dollars the same to be paid to them or their legal
representative at the time of the survivor of both os us by and through
our Executor herinafter named.
Seventh: We give and bequeath to our daughter Pauline Pohl Stelzig and
wife of Joseph Pohl a like amounf of one thousand dollars, the same to be
paid to he or her legal offspring in marriage after the death of both of
us by our Executor herinafter named.
Eight: It is understood and agreed between us that if it is deemed
necessary the survivor of us may change whatsoever provisions are deemed
necessary, prudient, and it is further stipulated and agreed and so
directed the surviving wife or husband shall be the executor or executrix
of their Estates and after their death that their son Joseph Stelzig
shall be the Executor, and that neither shall be required to give any
bond or so
